Steal A Seed Starter Crops

Plant fuel first, print cash, then rip the slot when a better seed is in your hands.

Starter Crops

Starter crops are the plants you put in the ground so Steal A Seed is not a dead plot. They are not trophies. They are not raid magnets. They exist to print the first cash, teach you planters, and fund a treadmill session. This page is the early-game half of the Plants hub. The other half — what you steal once you have Speed — is high-tier plants.

Rainbow Isle Tycoon has not published official starter names, so this guide will not invent a Dex. “Starter” means the first rarity band you can plant without a heist: common fuel, not the neon purple centerpiece in someone else’s garden.

If you have not done the first-hour loop yet, read getting started first, then come back here to decide what occupies the slot.

What to plant first

Your first plant has one job: start cash while you are not standing on the plot. That means:

  • Put a seed in a planter before you tour the map.
  • Prefer anything that is already in your hands over waiting for a glamorous steal.
  • Fill the slot you have before you shop for a second planter.

A filled starter is C-tier on the tier list — you will outgrow it. That is success, not failure. An empty planter is D-tier behavior: you spent the opening minute decorating air.

Do not open the session by sprinting for a mutated high-tier plant with tutorial Speed. The magnet will still be there after you have a printing crop. If it is not, someone with a treadmill already took it, which is the lesson.

The starter job list

Keep these jobs on a short card:

  1. Occupy the first planter. Cash must tick or every later upgrade is a fantasy.
  2. Fund the treadmill. Speed is how you graduate from C-tier farming to A-tier steals. Spend order is on upgrade priority.
  3. Fund extra planters only after the first slot works. More empty holes are not progress.
  4. Hold the slot until a better seed is actually in your hands. Do not rip C for a vacancy.
  5. Replace, do not hoard. When a B or better arrives, the starter’s job is over.

If a starter is still in every slot after you have Speed and a successful steal, you are not loyal. You are stalled.

When to replace a starter

Replace when all of these are true:

  • You have a better seed in hand (solid cash planter or high-tier), not a maybe you saw across the grass.
  • The starter is no longer the bottleneck. It does not fund the next Speed buy or the next slot by itself in a useful way compared with the new plant.
  • You have somewhere to put the new seed immediately. Do not uproot first and wander.

Replace even faster when:

  • The starter is D-tier clutter you grabbed by accident — wrong magenta block, skip quality.
  • You need the slot for a seed a teammate is about to extract.
  • The plant is tiny, unmutated, and you already have two other starters doing the same job.

Do not replace when:

  • You are about to raid and the starter is your only income if you die.
  • You would empty the slot “to make room” with nothing to plant.
  • You are ripping a printing C because a glowing starter in another garden looked cooler. Glow on a starter is still a starter. See mutation tiers.

Starters versus magnets

New players mix the piles. A starter is fuel. A high-tier plant is a magnet. Different rules:

Starter cropHigh-tier plant
First session jobPrint cashIgnore until Speed exists
Steal prioritySkip unless it is freePlan the extract
MutationNice, still not a raid targetLoud beacon
SizeHelps a littleQuiet reason to steal
DefenseOptionalSit on the lane or lose it
EndgameReplaceKeep, stack, guard

If you treat starters like magnets, you waste Speed. If you treat magnets like starters, you AFK next to an S-tier plant and donate it to the lobby.

How starters fund the rest of the wiki

The early economy is a straight line:

  1. Plant a starter.
  2. Cash ticks.
  3. Buy Speed on the treadmill when you can survive a grab. See upgrade priority.
  4. Steal one better seed.
  5. Replace the weakest starter.
  6. Repeat until the garden is B and above, with an A or S you can actually watch.

That is the whole point of C-tier. It is a bridge. Players who skip the bridge keep resetting. Players who never leave the bridge keep getting out-printed by gardens that already swapped.

Common starter mistakes

  • Raid first, plant never. You drop the seed on death and come home to silence.
  • Buy extra planters and fill them with more C forever. You built a starter farm and called it a tycoon.
  • Sell the only printing crop for a Speed tick you spend on junk. Now you are fast and broke.
  • Wait for a named seed. There is no official Dex. Plant the fuel you have.
  • Guard a starter like an S-tier mutant. Your time is worth more on the treadmill than camping C-tier grass.

Scouting starters on other plots

When you walk the ring, tag gardens that are still on starters. They are low-value steals and high-value information: that owner probably has low Speed and empty ambition, or they just joined. Do not spend a Speed bar there unless a high-tier seed is hiding in the back. Free magenta blocks on a starter plot are only worth a detour if they cost you nothing.

Your own starter plot should look boring on purpose. Boring and printing beats pretty and empty. Save the neon purple silhouette for after the swap.

When the first better seed is in a planter, stop calling the garden a starter garden. Re-rank it on the tier list and play defense or the next steal. The crop that taught you the loop can go. That is what it was for.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Steal A Seed heists, Speed, and codes.

What is the first plant I should use in Steal A Seed?

Whatever starter seed you can put in a planter immediately. The job is cash, not prestige. The getting started guide covers that first loop.

When do I replace starter crops?

When a better seed is actually in your hands and the slot will be filled the same moment you uproot. Do not empty a printing C for a vacancy.

Should I steal other players' starter crops?

Only if the grab is free. Do not dump Speed on C-tier fuel. Spend the bar on high-tier plants you can extract.

Is a mutated starter worth keeping forever?

No. Mutation on a starter is still a starter. Keep it only until a higher rarity seed arrives. Glow does not freeze the swap timer.

Should I buy extra planters just to hold more starters?

Not until the first slot works and Speed is no longer the bottleneck. Extra empty or C-only slots stall you. Follow upgrade priority.
